Reliable availability of eye care services to the less privileged section of the community in Tanzania.

Ona Network runs several vision rehabilitation projects in Tanzania, increasing the accessibility of eye care services to the community. These projects include: community optometry, cataract project and low-cost optometry clinics.
These projects, targeting economically deprived rural communities, contribute to the Vision2020 initiative to eliminate preventable blindness by the year 2020. Ona Network projects also contribute to the pre-existing government efforts to provide eye care services to rural areas.
Tanzania is an agricultural country with a population of 37 million people. The population is growing at a rate of more than 3.5% per year, with 48% of the population being under the age of 15. Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world, with an annual per capita income of $110 (World Development Report, 1995).
