LOW COST OPTOMETRY CLINICS
Ona Network has set up two collaborative low cost clinics (Sight Centres) in Dodoma to increase the availability of reliable eye care to the community. The first Sight Centre was established in 2008 and have been very successful and is now a clinic of choice for major institutions in Dodoma including colleges and Bible colleges. Set up in an urban area, the clinic also serves as a fund generating activity for Ona Network. The second Sight Centre was set up in July 2011 at the University of Dodoma. Thanks to a team of ten volunteers from Australia who worked very hard to set up the centre. The centre has three full time staff who are supported by the Ona Network's programs coordinator. Our Sight Centres provide affordable eye care to those with low or middle income in
Dodoma township. Services offered at Sight Centre are at a fraction of
normal cost charged by other providers. All (100%) of the profit made at
our Sight Centres go toward the provision of free eye care in the villages.
Currently,
our Sight Centre at the University of Dodoma has volunteer positions available for an optometrist and an
optical dispenser for a minimum term of 1 month.
